Celebrating British business success in Asia

Posted by: , Posted on: - Categories: Export

No one can doubt the importance of the high-growth and emerging Asian markets for business – as the Foreign Secretary said when we launched the Asia Task Force campaign , with Asian consumers predicted to be spending $32 trillion by 2030, our economic compass should be pointing firmly East. Here at UKTI, we want to encourage UK businesses to consider exporting to Asia.

But there’s nothing like hearing from someone who’s done it. That’s why we want to create a showcase of the most exciting British companies currently doing business in Asia. Each member of our British Business Success in Asia showcase has a great story to tell about their business adventures in Asia, and are willing to share their on-the-ground experiences, tips and advice with other UK companies. Here are some of the fantastic stories we’ve found so far – you’ll be able to hear them in person at our event on February 9th

• The Fired Up Corporation  - what do the Corby Trouser Press and a rice cooker have in common? A fantastic story from Richard Kaye about Fired Up’s adventures in China.

• Harvey Nash - Paul Smith tells us how a bowl of noodles led to a business employing 4,500 people in Vietnam

Global Immersion - hear from Michael Andrews how winning multi-million pound contracts in China and Taiwan let Global Immersion reach for the stars

• Benoy - with a 90 per cent increase in turnover in India in 2010/11, Jacqueline Beckingham shares the secrets of Benoy’s success.

• M&C Energy - not even floods could douse M&C Energy’s success in Thailand and Malaysia - Simon Northrop tells us more

• Altek - with over £2,000,000 of export sales, there’s brass in aluminium for Alan Peel of Altek in China.

• Strix - with 475 patents worldwide, Paul Hussey from Strix knows a bright idea when he sees one – he tells us about Strix’s innovations in China.

• Steps - how former actor and founder of Steps Robbie Swales discovered local talent in India

Could you be our next success story? If you’ve got a brilliant business story in Asia to tell, let us know about it! We’ll be launching our showcase at the event on 9th February, or see http://www.businessinasia.co.uk/ for more details.

The UK-based Linguaphone Group are developing across Asia with our children's English language program, Pingu's English - illustrated perfectly by our work with the UKTI in Thailand who helped us identify a Master Licensee for our program in Thailand. http://www.pingusenglish.com/media/docs/casestudy_thailand.htm
